Kopparleden

THEME #1: FOOD, CULTURE & NATURE

This package offers a mix of food, nature and culture in accordance with a Norwegian-Swedish recipe with a heritage going back to the 17th century.

We start in the small Norwegian town Røros, in 1980 included on the UNESCO World Heritage list; this is also the Norwegian starting point for Kopparleden – the Copper Route. Local Røros culture is highly connected with the great era of copper mining from the late 1600s. We suggest you join a guided town walk. The town walks start from the tourist information office and ensure that you won’t miss any of the special attractions.
The food in Røros is renowned well beyond the town borders and well worth sampling also for native Norwegians. In most of its parts, Røros is a well-preserved wooden town and the local atmosphere is so good you will feel tempted to stay longer, but this package will see you continue already the next day to the scenically located mountain lodge STF Grövelsjön.
STF Grövelsjöns Fjällstation is situated where the road ends and the mountain nature takes over.
Arriving here you are preceded by various well-known characters including Carolus Linnæus in 1734, but at that time the amenities in terms of comfortable accommodation and good food were scarce.
In Grövelsjön you can opt for excursions on your own on the well-marked trails and paths or to book a guided tour to one of the many attractions available to the guests at Grövelsjön.
Following two relaxing days filled with nature’s beauty, the time has come to straddle the bike again for the drive onwards to Älvdalen. Here we would like to suggest a visit to the Sami village Idre Sameby and the shop where you can find Sami delicacies and souvenirs.
Once arrived in the hotel in Älvdalen a visit to the sauna may be well appreciated before dinner, also included in the package. Make sure to use the free admission tickets to Hagströmsmuseet, a museum depicting an era when the factory produced guitars for world celebrities such as Elvis Presley, Frank Zappa and many others. Also a tour to Gessi Fäbodar with a typical Swedish ‘fika’ in a genuine shieling atmosphere (also included).

There is much on offer on the theme in Älvdalen; ask the staff or take a walk to the Turistbyrån and pick up some brochures and start planning for the next day’s adventures.

THEME #5: WITH THE NATURE IN YOUR BAG

The sheer sensation of driving a motorcycle brings you near nature; you can enjoy the scents, how the weather and the wind turn. This particular package places you and nature in the centre, even when you have parked the bike.

Although the theme is nature, there is no need to camp out or stay in a cabin; accommodation is provided in comfortable hostels and in a luxury mountain lodge.
The mountain lodge STF Grövelsjön has provided accommodation for celebrities such as Carolus Linnæus during his visit in 1734, albeit not providing the comfortable accommodation and good food of today. The natural scenery should however be the same as Linnæus got to enjoy, but now there are well-marked trails enabling you to follow in his tracks.
In Grövelsjön you can opt for excursions on your own on the well-marked trails and paths or to book a guided tour to one of the many attractions available to the guests at Grövelsjön. After a few pleasant days in Grövelsjön, the time has come to get back on the bike and drive on to Evertsberg, also in Sweden.
